The Improved Clinch Knot

The Improved Clinch Knot is most commonly used to attached fishing line to a hook, swivel, or fly. The following 7 steps will have you tying this secure knot in know time.

Step 1 -

To start thread the line threw the eye then cross back over itself.

Step 2 -

Continue to wrap back on itself between 3 and 6 times depending on the thickness of the line. The less wraps the thicker the line and the more wraps the thinner the line. 5 wraps being the most common for 5 pound test line.

Step 3 -

Find the loop you have created at the eye.

Step 4 -

Run the tail threw the loop at the eye.

Step 5 -

Identify the new loop you have created.

Step 6 -

Place the tail threw the new loop.

Step 7 -

Wet the line to cut down on friction and heat that may damage and/or weaken the line, then with even pressure on both the tail and the main line pull gently until the knot dresses down to a set of barrels with a tail. Trim and you're complete.
