What's new with Anew
The Changing of the Seasons
As the summer season quickly comes to an end, the signs of fall are begging to appear: The sweet smell of apples and cinnamon fills the air. Fall's cool crispness greets you in the morning as you emerge from a sleeping bag. The stands at farmers markets are stocked with peaches, corn and tomatoes. Cozy sweaters and warm fleece jackets are pulled from closet shelves. This is perhaps our favorite time of year.

Notes from the Field
Stuart Island 4-Day Kayaking 8/13-16/06
Patty, Kim, Marie, and Rene joined me for a Stuart Island 4-day kayaking trip under blue skies. We met Sunday morning drank coffee and caught up on current events on the ferry ride to Friday Harbor. A short drive and we arrived at Roche Harbor then packed boats with anxiety to leave the hustle and bustle behind. We crossed Spieden Channel as the ebb currents began to grow, then took a quick snack and water break in the lee currents of Sentinel Island. Passing through John's Passage we admired the kelp beds and glassy blue water on our way to Prevost Harbor and our camp for the next 3 nights.

Experience Says
Berry Goodness
Huckleberry season is here. We hope the following Huckleberry Muffin recipe will inspire you to get out and harvest one of Mother Nature's greatest treats!
Huckleberry Muffins
- 1 c. huckleberries
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 Tbs. margarine melted
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1/4 c. syrup
Combine sugar and huckleberries. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together eggs, milk, vanilla, margarine, and syrup. Combine the two mixtures, using a fork to stir. Do not over mix. Fill well-greased muffin tins, 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes
