Notes from the Field

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow...

For us snow enthusiasts, November was a month of snowy celebration.   This year's early snowfall opened Washington's ski areas a month earlier than last year.   Anew's guides took full advantage of the new snow by exploring the front and backcountry of Stevens Pass.   If last month is any indication of what is to come, we have a good year ahead of us.

Experience Says

"Cotton Kills"

"Cotton Kills" should be the mantra that plays through your head while preparing for a day of play outdoors.   The problem with cotton is when it gets wet (and it always does) it has no insulating value and takes forever to dry.   Thus, becoming the perfect instigator of hypothermia, which can be lethal in the backcountry.   In fact, studies have shown that people stay warmer naked than when wearing wet cotton.   So next time your headed out, remember cotton is best for the car ride home.
