What's New with Anew
Chill Out with Anew
Record temperatures brought summer in with a bang this year. As the thermometer steadily climbed, everyone and anyone was looking for one thing, water. If you are looking for ways to cool off this summer but don't want to fight the 2-hour line at the boat ramp, then we have just the ticket. Whether it's a dip in an alpine lake, a wade in the Yakima River or a swim in a private cove, we'll help you "chill out" without the crowds. Check out Upcoming Events for other ideas to keep you cool.
North Cascades National Park (NCNP) Permit
The North Cascades is one of Washington's best-kept secrets. It isn't uncommon to have a drive-through National Park visitor be somewhat disappointed after completing a trip over the North Cascades Highway. Unlike most National parks, the beauty of this amazing place is not revealed from the road. Only those who are willing to take the time and energy to explore will truly experience the Park's magic and mystic, which is why it is our pleasure to announce that we have been working closely with NCNP to develop backpacking and multi-sport trips for the 2008 season. We look forward to sharing some of our favorite spots with you.
Note: For those interested in trips this summer, please contact Adrienne to set up a custom-based trip.

Notes from the Field
We've been busy this summer! Here are a few of the highlights:
Women's Recon - Adrienne, Stephanie, Marissa and Lindsey
I have been in a male-dominated field for the past 10 years and while all of my experiences with the opposite sex have been good ones, they just aren't quite like an "estro-fest." Read Adrienne's trip report here
Klebe Multi-Sport Adventure
Mike and Cindy Klebe came out from Iowa at the end of June to check out what the Washington hype was all about. We figured a 6-Day Multi-Sport Adventure was the perfect way to show them. Read more here
Olympic Wilderness Coast Multi Sport
Steve and Kiwi recently returned from another of our Olympic Coast trips and both have posted great trip reports. Take a look here

Experience Says
Keeping Hydrated
Why - Water is the solvent that breaks down and delivers important nutrients all the while cleaning waste products from our cells. Water lubricates joints, regulates temperature and makes up anywhere from 45 to 70 percent of our body, depending on your age, fitness levels and gender. Humans only live for 3 or 4 days without water and that's if your not being active.
How - Drink water. It's that easy. Ok, I know, its not that easy or convenient while being active. Well here are a few simple tricks that help.
-
Carry two water bottles - You'll have more water accessible and you can have some variety in what you're drinking.
-
Bring some flavor - Not everyone likes powdered (think sugar) drinks but they help spice up water or cover the taste of iodine tablets used for purifying water.
-
Try a hydration pack - These convenient bags or bladders of water are often worn on your back and water is consumed through a hose, making it easy to drink while on the go.
